Going Out On The Ice

If you are planning on going out on the ice there are a few things you should be looking out for. When you are from an area like I am, there tends to always be a foot of snow over the ice. You want to make sure you aren't walking on thin ice, there could always be spots you aren't sure about, which could put you under in a second. Take precaution and try to follow paths of others if any are available. Another thing I have witnessed is people getting lost out on the ice. Going out during the day and coming back at night is a normal thing for me as well, but if you lose your sense of direction you could be doomed. If you aren't sure how far you plan on going out or very aren't familiar with the area, bring a compass so you can make it back safely. When you do go out, being dressed well is another big mistake people make. Even if I end up taking two layers off, I always make sure I have extra clothing and good boots. Trudging through snow and being on ice all day puts wear on your feet and tend to be freezing half way through the day. Be careful!
